Regular eye exams with an optometrist, or an ophthalmologist if you have existing eye diseases or problems, can go a long way in preserving the health of your eyes. Pay Attention to Your Diet

The food you eat provides a number of nutrients, vitamins, and minerals that are essential to good health. Things like beta-carotene, omega-3 fatty acids, zinc, vitamins C and E, and lutein are all compounds found in food provide natural eye care that can help keep your eyes healthy and ward off serious issues, such as cataracts and macular degeneration. In order to ensure that your body consumes enough of these compounds to keep your eyes healthy, make sure your regular diet includes food like carrots, leafy, green vegetables, citrus, oily fishes like salmon and tuna, eggs, nuts, and beans. 

Protect Your Eyes from the Sun

Spending time outdoors and being active on a warm and sunny day is good for your health, but it is important to protect your eyes. One of the best things you can do to naturally protect your eyes while outdoors is wear quality sunglasses. Make sure that the lenses of the sunglasses you wear are designed to block out almost all UV rays from the sun. It is also beneficial to wear wraparound sunglasses that can help prevent excessive exposure to UV rays from the side.

Take Breaks from the Screen

In this day and age, a lot of people use computers, tablets, cell phones, and TVs for both work and fun. But, spending too much time in front of a screen can harm your eyes and lead to other problems that may need to be treated. Some common side effects of too much screen time include strained eyes, headaches, dry eyes, blurry vision, difficulty focusing on distant objects, and pain in the neck, back, and shoulders.

If your job requires you to use a tablet or computer throughout the day, make sure to take breaks for the sake of your eyes. Also consider how much you use screens for entertainment, and limit the amount to help prevent eye problems.
